HCL’s comprehensive Customer Engagement Programme ensures we are continually listening and responding to customer feedback.
We have the tools to conduct regular surveys, tailored to the individual needs of each school, as well as a streamlined process for identifying and providing analysis of service gaps throughout our client base.
Additionally, attendance of Focus Groups, Student Council Meetings and Catering Committees deliver valuable feedback which enhances our ability to provide a stronger standard of product and service and the opportunity for even greater client satisfaction.
Our standards are high; we are committed to the delivery of service excellence.
We are delighted that HCL was recognised with the attainment of two national awards for excellence in 2017:

Our teams are highly-trained, devoted and dedicated professionals who ensure that every menu is a recipe for success. You need it, we make it happen.
Feeding Hungry Minds
The principal element for many of our Primary Schools is the mid-day lunch service. HCL has a choice of appetising menus which utilise high quality ingredients and produce freshly prepared meals within school kitchens. All menus comply with the Government School Food Standards.
Our clients are able to make their choice with consideration to their needs and requirements. Primary menus consist of a three week cycle and are launched twice a year, at the start of the Summer term and Autumn half term.
HCL’s food and service offer for Secondary Schools, Academies and Sixth Form Colleges differs greatly from the provision within the Primary Sector. A more commercially focused service with concepts that can be favourably compared to the High Street outlets often frequented by this diverse audience.
Dishes are priced separately and include a series of attractive Meal Deals. In most Secondary Schools there are three services throughout the day (Breakfast, Mid-Morning Break and Lunch), menus are usually on a two or three week cycle and can be changed up to three times per year. Not Just School Dinners!
However, we’re keen to dissolve any thought that HCL is just about the Mid-day meal. Other ‘added value’ initiatives available to our clients include, but are not limited to, Breakfast, Mid-Morning Re-fuelling, After School Activity snacks, Packed Lunches, Staff Meals and a range of professional and keenly priced hospitality and event options, to name but a few. From tea and biscuits or working breakfasts (hot or cold selections) to buffet lunches or full day menus for Inset Days, nothing is beyond HCL’s versatile team!

Catering for the Future
HCL is forward-looking and we do everything we can to minimise the impact our business has on the environment. We are strongly committed to reducing our carbon footprint and strive to encourage staff and students to play their part in minimising waste and saving energy.
Our policy of buying fresh, locally-produced ingredients reduces fuel consumption and transport costs. Staying local also means that we are contributing to the future success of our regional farmers and growers.
The provenance and origin of the foods we buy is a key factor in the way we operate. We buy direct from growers and producers. Out fruit and vegetables are locally grown, Red Tractor accredited produce. We source our meat from local butchers, using British-reared stock. Sausages come from pigs reared in Suffolk. Our fish is caught in sustainable waters certified by the Marine Stewardship Council.
Through our active membership of LACA (Local Authority Catering Association) we have links to key organisations such as DEFRA, the Soil Association, Healthy Schools and the Children’s Food trust.
A Consuming Passion
As a fresh food organisation, we only use high quality ingredients with assured provenance. We have complete control over every meal – so we comfortably meet guidelines for minimising the use of salt, sugar and saturated fats.
We encourage our inspiring chefs to use steamers and combination ovens to ensure foods retain vitamins and goodness. This approach has the added benefit of reducing energy consumption and a more positive impact on the environment.
We believe all students should enjoy good, fresh food, including those individuals with particular dietary requirements. HCL has a nut-free policy and staff are trained in the provision of special diets. It is always our aim to go above and beyond government guidelines on nutritional standards.
