Feeding Hungry Minds
The main element of our primary school service is the mid-day lunch. HCL offers a range of appetizing menus for primary schools, using high quality ingredients to produce freshly prepared meals in school kitchens on a daily basis. All menus are compliant with the Government’s Food Based and Nutrient Based Standards.
The menu is agreed with the School with consideration to their needs and requirements. Primary menus are on a three week cycle and changed twice a year.

Catering for the Future
The service offered in secondary schools, academies and sixth form colleges differs greatly from the service offered in primary schools. The service is much more commercially focused and compared favourably with major High Street names.
Food is priced separately along with a series of attractive Meal Deals. In most secondary schools there are three services through the day (Breakfast, Break and Lunch). Prices vary from school to school. Menus are on a three week cycle and are completely changed three times a year.

Catering for the Future
HCL is forward-looking and we do everything we can to minimise the impact our business has on the environment. We are strongly committed to reducing our carbon footprint and strive to encourage staff and students to play their part in minimising waste and saving energy.
Our policy of buying fresh, locally-produced ingredients reduces fuel consumption and transport costs. Staying local also means that we are contributing to the future success of our regional farmers and growers.
The provenance and origin of the foods we buy is a key factor in the way we operate. We buy direct from growers and producers. Out fruit and vegetables are locally grown, Red Tractor accredited produce. We source our meat from local butchers, using British-reared stock. Sausages come from pigs reared in Suffolk. Our fish is caught in sustainable waters certified by the Marine Stewardship Council.
Through our active membership of LACA (Local Authority Catering Association) we have links to key organisations such as DEFRA, the Soil Association, Healthy Schools and the Children’s Food trust.
A Consuming Passion
As a fresh food organisation, we only use high quality ingredients with assured provenance. We have complete control over every meal – so we comfortably meet guidelines for minimising the use of salt, sugar and saturated fats.
We encourage our inspiring chefs to use steamers and combination ovens to ensure foods retain vitamins and goodness. This approach has the added benefit of reducing energy consumption and a more positive impact on the environment.
We believe all students should enjoy good, fresh food, including those individuals with particular dietary requirements. HCL has a nut-free policy and staff are trained in the provision of special diets. It is always our aim to go above and beyond government guidelines on nutritional standards.
