Universal Infant Free School Meals

free school meals

Do you have a child who attends Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 at your local school?

If this is the case your children will be eligible for a freshly prepared hot lunch free of charge. In September 2014, the Government introduced a scheme for Free School Meals for all children attending the first three years at school.

This was exciting news and has provided a fantastic benefit for children, parents and schools alike. Not only are school meals delicious and healthy but this initiative can also save parents £400 yearly per child. Find out more here

The introduction of this major scheme has been seen to improve eating habits in the young, with evidence showing a significant link between a good diet and a positive impact on performance at school. Pilot projects which tested universal free school meals showed that they have given children a real appetite for learning and help them to achieve their full potential.

HCL, the largest school meals provider in Hertfordshire and beyond, ensures school kitchens, and the teams within them, continue to deliver this vital ingredient to a child’s education. Should you choose to take up this entitlement, your child will receive a freshly prepared nutritious meal each school day; for further details on eligibility, please contact your school.

Our menus are changed twice a year, in the Spring and Autumn months. Please follow the link below to find out more about the range of menus offered within schools whose catering is provided by HCL. See our menu choices
